The surroundings
Alpenlandhaus Der kupferne Fuchs is located in a tranquil environment halfway up a mountain (at approx. 900 meters altitude) and in the middle of the ski slopes of the Hinterreit-family ski area. From the front of the house you have a magnificent view of the mountain range 'Steinernen Meer'.
In winter you can ski from the house directly to one of the ski slopes through approx. 50 meters of powder snow or you can walk to the slope over the road over approx. 50 meters. On the mountain on the house is situated there are two ski lifts (both T-bars), one lift takes you to 1060 meters altitude and the other to 1200 meters. Terrain classifications vary from blue to red. At the bottom of the slopes you also find a baby lift and practice area for children and absolute beginners. Furthermore, you will find a ski school and rental facilities as well as a cosy cafe/restaurant with a terrace. Hinterreit is truly a great mountain for a families…
In summer but also in winter the house is a great place to start a hike. Or a bike ride. From the house it's only a 15 minute walk (downhill) to the picturesque village of Maria Alm. Please know that in winter the path may be covered in snow and at those times the walk can be a bit of an adventure. In 25 minutes you can walk to neighbouring Saalfelden or take a hike or a stroll on one of the many trails in the area.
Of course, you can also explore the area and the province of Salzburg by car. The paved road to the house is accessible the year round, although in winter you may need snow chains.
The apartments all have fully equipped kitchenettes, but if you are not feeling like eating at home one evening but you are neither in the mood to walk or drive down to the village, please know that only a short walk away Gasthof Hinterrreit (only 5 minutes higher on the mountain) is also a perfect spot for dinner and drinks. It's also a great place to have lunch or end a day of skiing or snowboarding on the sunny terrace. From there you can ski or walk right back to the apartment.
