Maria Alm and SalzburgerLand

Maria Alm is located in the province of Salzburg and it's a picturesque and cosy village surrounded by the mountain range 'Steinernes Meer' in the north and the Pinzgauer Grasbergen in the south. Maria Alm has a friendly atmosphere. You will surely enjoy the quaint shops, cosy cafes and restaurants and cute square and beautiful church. The village itself is at 795 meters altitude, but the slopes and hiking trails go much higher (until 3,000 meters).

Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the slopes of Hinterreit and Natrun in the immediate surroundings or the Aberg, Hochkönigs Winter Kingdom, part of the immense ski area 'Ski Amadé', which has over 850 kilometres of slopes to offer. Hochkönigs Winter Kingdom has app. 150 km of slopes (altitude between 800 and 2000 meters, and snow is guaranteed by means of snow machines). Glacier skiing is also possible, even in summer, in Kaprun approx. 19 kilometres away at 3000 meters altitude . Also, ski area 'Europa Sportregion' (Zell am See - Kaprun) and Saalbach-Hinterglemm are options for a nice day trip. The area really has something to offer for every type of skier or snowboarder.

Also cross-country skiers can enjoy themselves on the many trails around Maria Alm. In the surroundings you will find approx. 100 kilometres of cross-country trails.

And hikers can hit the trails too! The village is surrounded by the beautiful hiking area of Aberg-Langeck, with many trails of various difficulty. There are lovely, easy trails, but also more strenuous trails to higher meadows. Maria Alm is also a great starting point for mountaineers for longer treks with overnights in one of the mountain cabins.

In the village and its surroundings there are many restaurants for you to enjoy local specialities, such as Wiener Schnitzel or Strudel (or a pizza or fries if you or the kids prefer that). After an active day in the outdoors, relax on one of the many terraces and enjoy a cold beer or a hot Glüwein or hot chocolate.

Furthermore, you will find a heated indoor swimming pool in Zell am See or perhaps you prefer to dive into the cool waters of the Ritsen See or Zeller See.

Maria Alm has even more to offer to its guests:

  • mountain biking (bike rental in the village);
  • Nordic walking;
  • horseback riding;
  • golf or midget golf;
  • tennis;
  • children's programmes (end June - end August);
  • babysitting service (ski season);
  • museums;
  • fishing;
  • summer- and winter toboggan run;
  • rafting;
  • sleigh rides;
  • public sauna, fitness, solarium, massage and pool.

A bit further away, but surely worth a visit are:

  • the large reservoir near Kaprun;
  • the Grosglockner;
  • the beautiful waterfalls of Krimml;
  • (ice)caves;
  • cities like Salzburg, Bad Hofgastein or Zell am See.

Note. Summer skiing is possible on the glacier of Kaprun.
